Madam, - Ruadhan Mac Cormac's report on immigrant homeless people in Dublin ( The Irish Times, December 30th) is a timely reminder of the effects of economic downturns. One in four of the homeless in London in the 1980s were Irish.
I suggest that the embassies of homeless immigrants in Dublin follow the example of the Irish Government's funding of projects in cities abroad where there are Irish immigrants. Such an intervention by foreign embassies would send a message to their immigrants that they are not forgotten in bad times.
It would also help to rally those in immigrant communities who have done well to reach out to others who have ended up in nowhere zones of homelessness, isolation and loneliness. - Yours, etc,
