Homeopathy and science

Sir, – Gerti Magee (Letters, April 1st) eloquently describes the unbiased nature of the scientific process.

She correctly asserts that it would be bad science to deny the existence of an observed phenomenon just because we have no understanding of its mechanisms.

Assuming Gerti was talking about homeopathy, I would point out that science has never actually observed any phenomenon due to homeopathic treatments so the issue of denying that which we don’t understand does not arise.

Science has kept an open mind on homeopathy for decades but study after study has failed to show any homeopathic effect that is distinguishable from placebo. – Yours, etc, FERGUS McCANN Blessington, Co Wicklow.
