Sir - Dermot S. Harte's comments (May 15th) are typical of the self-important attitude of academic circles. There is an endemic snobbery that only academic achievement be prized. Roy Keane has risen to the pinnacle of his chosen profession and, I dare say, spent more hours honing his skill than any Ph.D. student. Should this achievement not also be recognised? - Yours, etc.,
