Madam, - With regard to C Nolan's call (January 24th) for us formally to honour those who founded the State, it is fair to point out that statues of Michael Collins and Eamon de Valera have already been erected in Clonakilty and Ennis.
I would strongly favour erecting statues of Kevin O'Higgins and WT Cosgrave to honour the efforts which both men made to ensuring the stability of the State.
In addition, a statue of Arthur Griffith should be erected to mark his strong role in defending Irish democracy in 1922 and in sowing the seeds of Irish self-government by establishing Sinn Féin in 1905. - Yours, etc,
FRANK BOUCHIER-HAYES, Gortboy, Newcastle West, Co Limerick.
