Sir, Inflation in Ireland is currently around 1.5 per cent a year, yet house prices are rising by 20 per cent a year. How is it that this extraordinarily high house price level is not being reflected in a general inflation figure? Are statistics being massaged here in preparation for EMU membership, or is there a simpler explanation? Yours, etc.
