Housing supply and apartment size

Sir, – Apartments in this country are incredibly cheaply built, they are much too small, they have too little storage space, they are very poorly finished and they cost much more to rent than their equivalents in Germany.

The proposal to decrease the size of apartments fills me with horror.

If apartments get any smaller or more poorly built, the Government might consider selling people tents as an alternative.

We need to increase the size of the apartments built, we need to insist on a higher standard of construction, we need to stop blaming the price of land, and we need to force the builders to build better-quality units.

We should insist on bigger apartment sizes, include more storage facilities, and stop using cheap and small “pods” for kitchens and bathrooms.– Yours, etc,
