How can Metro North take so long?

Sir, – The Government recently announced, with some fanfare, its Capital Investment Plan. At the centre of this plan is Metro North, a rail line linking the city centre to Dublin Airport and on to Swords – a distance of 27 miles.

The projected time for the completion of this ambitious project is to be 2026/2027. The trans-American railroad was built in six years (1863/1869) covering a total distance of 1,776 miles. Am I missing something? – Yours, etc,
