Sir, – In light of the Luas dispute, it is interesting to compare jobs where the salaries are published.
For example, several lectureship posts in universities are advertised with a salary scale of €31,382-€56,967.
This is less than that claimed by the Luas drivers in their dispute.
Other university lectureships, such as that for a lecturer in theoretical physics, attract a higher salary scale of €50,807-€76,936.

These would require about seven years training which compares starkly with the seven week-programme the Luas drivers undertake.
First choice alternative to all the above is the role of TD. Here the basic salary is €87,258 and no training or qualifications are required at all.
