Howth Hazard

Sir - A word of warning to any of your readers who have not visited Howth in the last few weeks

Sir - A word of warning to any of your readers who have not visited Howth in the last few weeks. The main harbour road, a busy but safe area to drive along, has been subjected to Fingal County Council's traffic-calming measures. Traffic-enraging more like. I have yet to meet one resident who is happy with it.

Chicanes of concrete have taken up valuable parking space. Left-hand turns now throw one across the middle white line, and new footpaths have no wheelchair or buggy access. Now the pneumatic drills and JCBs are moving up to the village to create further mayhem. Some of our braver Councillors have admitted that a mistake is being made, but still the work goes on. So visitors beware, come on your bike, if you dare - Yours, etc.,
