Sir, - Bernard O'Grady's assertion that Brazil was named after St Brendan's mythical Hy Brazil (July 21st), is nonsensical. The name owes its origin to the early important export of red dyewood, pau-brasil, obtained from local caesalpiniaceous trees. Incidentally, I was surprised at the various incorrect written versions of Brazil's industrial metropolis in a newspaper known for accuracy in such matters. It's Sπo Paulo, not Sao Paulo - Yours, etc.,
