Sir, - I fully support William Hunt's opposition to the misuse of "begging the question" (January 12th); but does he not know the difference between "i.e." and "e.g."? He gives a not very good example of the sort of argument which may conclude with "that begs the question"; but he introduces this example with "i.e." (id est) when he clearly means "e.g." (exempli gratia). This very common error is surely as great a solecism as the misuse of "begging the question". - Yours, etc., Chalmers Trench,
