A chara, – I was surprised to read the Minister for Education’s announcement concerning coding in primary schools.
I have been waiting for an ICT announcement of a different kind. In October 2015 the “Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020” was launched. Relief was felt among schools looking forward to €210 million over five years, which would provide for badly needed updating of school ICT facilities. The figure allocated for the 2016-2017 academic year is €30 million. To date there is no sign of this money, with a little over five weeks to the start of the school year.
Must schools be forced to continue with a sticking-plaster approach to hardware while the Irish public is given the impression that all is taken care of? – Yours, etc,
