Sir, – Watching the golf over the weekend at Augusta, I wondered if we will ever see a professional golfer not wear a baseball cap on the course at a major tournament. Most of those playing are multimillionaires. Do they really need to wear what are often pretty goofy-looking caps? Do they really make so much extra money from wearing them?
Could there be a first-mover advantage, I wonder, for a sponsor who does not decree that their man must wear his cap during the match and then in every media interview afterwards? It might actually generate more column inches for them if the cap was absent. Or perhaps a golfer might just like to be a bit different? Maybe one of the Irish golfers could lead the way? – Yours, etc,
