In defence of cats

Madam, – I take exception to Rosita Boland’s Irishwoman’s Diary regarding “the curse of the cat”, (June 14th)

Madam, – I take exception to Rosita Boland’s Irishwoman’s Diary regarding “the curse of the cat”, (June 14th). I, along with many other people all over the world, am a cat lover. Not that I would go to the ridiculous extreme of formal marriage. In fact to give that example is quite ludicrous.

Most animal lovers are just plain that – they like animals and try to give them a good life. Companionship works two ways. I don’t find her other two examples all that ridiculous. I could see her point in being disappointed not to be able to print her interview after putting up with the close presence of a pet she did not care for. But surely it would have been far better to have been honest about her feelings and asked her interviewee early on if the cat could be moved to another room? I think that even a cat lover would not like a new acquaintance of the feline variety to wrap itself around his or her neck. – Yours, etc,
