Madam, - I have waited years to hear a woman say the beautiful and truthful things Marie Murray says about men (Health Supplement, January 4th). The wait was well worthwhile.

Her article should be obligatory reading for both sexes.

The fact that men are capable of having emotion is one that has been constantly eroded in recent years, in particular by female commentators. It had got to such a stage that it seemed that men never got hurt; they just got bruised egos. How untrue. How hurtful.

I hope that Ms Murray's article is the beginning of a process of redress. Give her a medal for being so wise and brave. Give her my thanks too. - Is mise,

Madam, - May I compliment Marie Murray on her celebration of men in Tuesday's Health Supplement? I genuinely thought I was the last woman left in Ireland who cringed when the issues of men or masculinity were brought up by the media. It is truly refreshing to see such comments, especially when compared with those that seek to present men as pathetic, obsolete, stupid or downright brutish. Well done! - Yours, etc.,
