DECLAN MEAGHER,
Sir, - Congratulations to Mick Galwey and Munster for what he and his players continue to achieve in Europe. Munster merit every inch of print generated from yet another famous victory against Castres last weekend. The French coach, Bernard Laporte, heaped praise on Galwey's men after the match.
A few weeks earlier, we were surprised to be travelling with Mick Galwey in the same train to Stade de France in Paris to the France-Ireland match. Whereas we were supporters, Galwey had been captain of the Irish side at the start of the current season as well as having captained Ireland to a famous victory over France on St Patrick's weekend two years earlier on the same turf. We thought he deserved better.
There is no doubt that win, lose or draw the final against Leicester, Munster will treat Gallimh differently when he decides to retire. Luckily we are fortunate to have Munster to be proud of because it encapsulates what Ireland and Irish rugby is all about.
As for the IRFU, their shabby treatment of Mick Galwey came as absolutely no surprise! - Yours, etc.,
DECLAN MEAGHER, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
