Sir, – Maria Halpin (May 30th) seems to think that a window tax would be fairer and easier to enforce than the current LPT. I wonder. Consider a few questions. What is a “fair” sum? What about variations in window size, style, specification (single / double / triple glazed)? Would some window owners be exempt? Would some properties / rooms be exempt? Would Sinn Féin initiate a campaign to abolish such an unfair tax (ie a tax on light and air)? Would the Construction Industry Federation consider the gain to the gainers (blocklayers) to be greater or less than the loss to the losers (glaziers)? The quest for the fair and simple tax goes on. – Yours, etc,
