Sir, – I have to admit to delusions of grandeur after hearing Fine Gael's latest election promise to raise the inheritance tax threshold to €500,000 as a reward to "middle Ireland" ("Fine Gael shifts to favouring public spending over tax cuts", January 25th).
I thought I was comfortably ensconced in that segment, having an income well above the minimum wage, owing my own house and having two children. Alas, no longer, as I do not meet the minimum test of having assets of €1 million. So do I revert to “ordinary Ireland”, for which there appears to be no rewards? – Yours, etc,
SEÁN MURRAY,
Barna, Co Galway.
