Sir, – May I congratulate Emmet Malone (Sport, June 20th) on an article of sense and necessity.
That I must also praise his bravery in writing it is testament to the position that John Delaney holds in Irish football.
Whilst the Irish senior international team is rightly the flagship of the game in this country, the grassroots, from juvenile to League of Ireland is the source of talent and therefore deserving of the most passionate attention from the FAI.
Ultimately the seniors’ success will stem from the nurturing of the game in this country. This is clearly not the case under the stewardship of John Delaney.
The financial difference between his salary and the monies provided to the national league and junior football is astonishing. The FAI workforce numbers have also been slashed.
Hopefully Emmet Malone’s article will encourage those within the game to exert their influence and herald a new era with the removal of John Delaney from his position of complete control. – Yours, etc,
