Sir, - Given that we must surely be the dirtiest country in the EU, I find it laughable that we are objecting to incineration as a means of managing our waste.

Regardless of whatever technology we decide on, be it landfill, or incineration, the Irish people will continue to discard their rubbish on the streets, hills, canals, rivers, and countryside, as we have been doing for generations. I believe this trait is genetic in the Irish race.

So what's all the fuss about? Waste management, of whatever kind, will not change the Irish attitude to litter. Why don't we just continue to use the country as a litter-bin and save the exchequer millions? - Yours, etc.,
