Madam, – Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has signalled CIÉ fare increases as a result of falling passenger numbers, among other factors. This seems be at odds with normal business practice, which dictates price cuts when demand for a service or goods decreases.
In addition, due to the agreed reductions in our greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, this seems an extremely short-sighted proposal, as we need to be encouraging people to use public transport as opposed to introducing further disincentives to use it. – Yours, etc,
