Madam, - Liam O'Flanagan (April 6th) may not be aware that the Brownrigg family of Durrow, who would have been well known to his grandfather Patrick O'Flanagan, produced a first-class cricketer in George (born 1896), who made a number of appearances for Sussex in the early 1920s. He died in London as recently as 1981. Perhaps his example unwittingly inspired the batters on the square.
