Sir, - It seems that the fundamentally democratic right of denominational schools to educate children according to the ethos of that school, is to be interfered with by our liberal totalitarians. I refer to the intended alteration or scrapping of Section 37(I) of the Employment and Equality Bill. Section 37(I) exempts religious institutions from certain provisions of the Bill where discrimination is necessary to protect their ethos.
This will affect every denominational school, whether Catholic, Protestant, Presbyterian, Jewish or Muslim. It is an extreme impertinence when we consider that we elected these people to the Dail and Seanad to serve our interests instead of which, they are imposing their totalitarian ideas on the people, excluding any interest in the common good. Theirs is a measure of deliberate disharmony.
Let the people of Ireland revolt against Democratic Left and Senator Joe O'Toole of INTO. Who votes for Democratic Left, anyway? If John Bruton does not make an issue of this, for the sole's reason for keeping himself in power, then John Bruton should go. Such people are not fit to govern us. - Yours, etc
