Madam, - Father David O'Hanlon (July 1st) is once again assuming the role of Defender of the Church. I detect a constant pattern through all of his correspondence to your paper: fear. What is he afraid of?
Father O'Hanlon should tell us; maybe then we could have a respectful dialogue about such sensitive issues as inter-church Communion. Until he answers that question, he is, I fear, going to do a grave injustice to the community he was called to serve.
Christian churches are at the service of the Gospel values of the Kingdom of God, as proclaimed by Jesus. With respect to Father O'Hanlon, I fear he is putting the Kingdom at the service of the Church.
This myopic focus can give rise to the offensive analogy contained in his latest letter. - Yours, etc.,
Father STEPHEN CUMMINS, Churchtown, Mallow, Co Cork.
