Madam, - Some years ago I was called to a serious accident in which a lady-driver was killed because she drove straight through a "yield right of way" sign - which unfortunately was obscured by overgrown bushes. I contacted the relevant local authority about the serious neglect in not making clearly visible vital road signs.

After many years I still see "Stop" and "Yield Right of Way" signs partially or fully obscured by overgrown shrubs and trees on Irish roads. Similarly, on many roads and even on motorways, direction signs are often concealed by bushes. I have contacted the relevant Government Department on a number of occasions about this - to no avail.

In the meantime motorists may go on their un-merry ways peeking around bushes and trees on the roads of Ireland to find their way - often at risk of their lives. - Yours, etc.,
