Sir, - You published (August 18th) a damning letter on Irish litter written by a young recent immigrant from Canada. It is one of those times when it is painful to see ourselves as others see us.

I hope that your young correspondent does not take the various refreshing walks around Dublin Bay, including those at Monkstown or Seapoint near Dun Laoghaire. If she does, someone would perhaps explain to her (and to the rest of us) why we continue to tolerate the ubiquitous dog dirt alongside notices warning of fines for leaving the same.
