Sir, - Some English friends about to visit Dublin heard about CIE's four-day bus/rail roaming tickets, and asked me to get them two. I started with Bus Atha Cliath, who informed me that tickets were available only at their headquarters at 59 Upper O'Connell Street. I said that this was not very convenient, and asked if they were they not available at railway stations. I was told, "No, because they have to be stamped, and that." I then tried Iarnrod Eireann, who were much more helpful, and told me tickets were available at any DART or rail station.

The young man in our local DART station didn't actually laugh in my face when I enquired, but said they'd only sold about two in the last three years, so they certainly didn't stock them. Finally, to my surprise, at Glenageary DART station I managed to get the tickets.

Imagine foreign visitors trying to make sense out of this. Is CIE trying to make it difficult for them? They're certainly succeeding. - Yours, etc.,
