Madam - Our nation's economic success is reflected in our thoughtless and selfish attitude to migrant workers. Time after time, I come across young people from Eastern Europe who have arrived in Ireland looking for excitement and hoping for a new life, a new beginning. Time after time, doors are slammed in their faces, wiping out the belief and confidence with which they arrived.
Empty promises made by self-interested employers have dampened the spirits of these young and optimistic boys and girls who were buoyed by their visions of an "Ireland of the thousand welcomes". This is the vision that we have spent millions of euro advertising globally.
If only people could realise the hurt they inflict, see the tears shed. - Is mise,
