Madam, - Two letters, both from doctors closely concerned with the problems of alcohol abuse, and strongly critical of strident and ill-placed advertising of alcoholic drinks, appeared in last Friday's edition.
The same morning, I received the weekly flier from Lidl, bright green in colour, wishing "Sláinte" at its masthead, and brashly proclaiming price reductions of between 20 and 30 per cent on a range of beers for "St Patrick's Day Celebrations" in the coming week.
Without a hint of irony, this front page also trumpets "Motorbiking Specials - See Inside for Details".
A seriously unwise cocktail, I would have thought. - Yours, etc,
