ROBERT MCKEOWN,
Madam - Everything I read and hear in the last few days about Mick McCarthy's departure seems to indicate that the door is open and the welcome mat is out for the return of Roy Keane.
I thought that after Roy Keane had let down himself, his team mates, his manager, the fans and the entire nation, that he would be ruled out of ever playing for Ireland again. Foolish me!
I would suggest to the FAI officials charged with finding a new manager that in order to avoid another scene with the toys being thrown out of the pram, they would draw up a short list of possible candidates which they would then submit to Roy for his approval. Should one of the candidates prove to be acceptable to Roy, he should then be required to interview him (or her) and to set out clearly the terms and conditions of employment of the new manager. - Yours, etc.,
ROBERT MCKEOWN, Sandymount, Dublin 4.
