IRISH FOREIGN POLICY

NOEL CONLON,

NOEL CONLON,

Madam, - High marks to Dan O'Brien's analysis of Ireland's public stance on EU and world affairs (Opinion & Analysis, February 10th). I wish only to observe that it is a pity he should have allowed the sometimes juvenile tone so typical of the Economist to surface in throwaway comments such as "Teutonic bores and Latin wind-bags".

He could do worse than take a leaf from our own Dr Garret FitzGerald, whose virtues of clarity combined with politeness and dispassionate comment are a singular delight. - Yours, etc.,

NOEL CONLON, Beglieve, Bailieborough, Co Cavan.
