Irish Water and water quality

Sir, – We have recently been advised by Irish Water that “more than half of the 900 drinking-water supplies in the State are substandard and require remedial action if they are to provide adequate water to consumers year-round” (News , July 16th).

In view of this unsatisfactory nature of much of our national drinking-water supply, Irish Water should be required to webcast in real time some of the readily-available water quality indicator parameters that are routinely monitored in its water treatment plants.

Such information would allow customers to get a timely indication of the quality of the water supplied, thereby providing some re-assurance that their supply is wholesome and clean.
