Sir, - As Rev David Hanlon (January 31st) lashes out at Catholic priests, Protestant ministers, other Christian faiths, the plain people of God and The Irish Times to explain why ecumenism is a "dead duck", he omits to mention the very significant impact of Dominus Iesus and its attendant Note, the ramifications of the instruction Liturgiam Authenicam from the Congregation for Divine Worship on biblical exegesis, and the atmosphere of fear that pervades the faculties of theology in major academic institutions - all of which come from Rome.
