RONAN WILLIAMS,
Sir, - I have long appreciated the good work done over many years by FÁS in producing tradesmen - bricklayers, electricians, plasterers, etc.
The winter edition of its staff newsletter Interfás lists 99 recent promotions. Of these, 88 are women. If this trend continues, FÁS will soon be an all-girl organisation. Who will then train the bricklayers of the future?
Will the few remaining men still have a job in the new FÁS? Indeed, are they doing anything to halt their slide into oblivion? It is amusing to reflect on what the feminine majority - who have brought about the above position - would get up to if 88 of the 99 promotions were for men instead of women.
A blueprint for the future of an all-girl FÁS from our Tánaiste might be helpful. - Yours, etc.,
RONAN WILLIAMS,
