Is Paul Krugman the king of the leprechauns?

Sir, – The US national debt is $19.353 trillion. It is a ticking time bomb. The average American pays just over $600,000 in interest on debt over the course of their life. This is as a result of the type of policies espoused by the likes of Paul Krugman, who once wrote an editorial in the New York Times entitled "Debt is good". As the US is floating on a sea of debt, Krugman would be better employed looking at his homeland. But, sure, who cares? Future generations will take the hit. The decline of the US as a superpower has begun thanks to a debt mountain that will hit $20 trillion this year. Has Krugman noticed? Obviously not! – Yours, etc,

JOHN BARRY,

Lismore, Co Waterford.
