Madam, - Israeli Ambassador Zion Evrony (May 21st) comments on the Palestinians' missed opportunities.
One wonders if the ambassador has reflected upon Israel's missed opportunities, not just for peace but for the avoidance of unnecessary carnage.
To quote Jan Egeland, the UN under-secretary-general for
humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, in his
assessment of Israel's actions at the close of the 2006 Lebanon
conflict: "What is shocking and, I would say, to me, completely
immoral is that 90 percent of the cluster-bomb strikes occurred in
the last 72 hours of the conflict, when we knew there would be a
resolution." - Yours, etc,
DAVID O'GORMAN,
Delgany,
Co Wicklow.
