It’s in the post

Sir, – In previous years, Christmas post arrived in a regular and predictable manner. An Post took justifiable pride in clearing the cards, letters and parcels by Christmas Eve.

However, post for this recent Christmas has been somewhat erratic. Cards I posted on December 11th arrived at their London destination on December 29th with the stamps unfranked. Several cards posted in Ireland arrived here after Christmas, mostly with stamps unfranked or with a line drawn through them, and on January 8th, a card, franked and dated December 12th, popped through our letterbox. Now that is a bit late – not even within the 12 days. – Yours, etc,
