ALBERTO SCHEPISI,
Sir, - I would like to clarify some points with regard to the report entitled, "Embassy staff cannot take equality action" (The Irish Times, January 11th).
The employment contract of the employees in question (which more precisely is with the embassy and not, as you incorrectly stated, with the ambassador) complies with specific provisions of the law applied in all Italian embassies throughout the world, irrespective of the nationality of the employees. There is therefore no prejudice (and even less so, racial prejudice) with regard to Irish employees.
In any case, I would like to specify that the annual salaries offered to the latter in this embassy are identical to those of our Italian employees in the same situation. - Yours, etc.,
ALBERTO SCHEPISI, Ambassador of Italy to Ireland, Dublin.
