Sir, - I would like to commend Fintan O'Toole on his excellent article on Professor Ivor Browne in Saturday's Irish Times. In the current climate of the Hepatitis C infection tragedy and the distribution of HIV infected blood, perhaps the Medical Council would be better employed examining the ethics of this situation and the behaviour of their colleagues in the Department of Health than attempting to censure Professor Ivor Browne on some groundless charge.
Professor Browne's excellent work, particularly in rehabilitating the "misfits and rejects" of our society, is well known and his research is internationally renowned.
Who gives the Medical Council its mandate to target and question the reputation of eminent practitioners in this arbitrary manner? - Yours, etc.,
