Sir,- It is unfortunate that it seems necessary to remind Mr Ivor Callely TD that the beloved founder of his party, Eamon de Valera, was born to an Irish economic immigrant in the United States. Had she been refused entry, or "sent back" as Mr Callely suggests, her son would never have been born, and one can think of many ways in which the course of Irish history this century might have been altered.
The only advantage I can think of in this fictional scenario is that there would be one less political party in existence which could tolerate such views among its members. - Yours, etc.,
