Sir, - I thought your Editorial of November 20th took a very hard and unfair line about Ivor Callely's remarks on asylum-seekers. I imagine that many people share his belief that countless asylum-seekers are attracted to Ireland merely because of its welfare state.
Well, since it has taken this country many hard, tough years to reach the prosperity we have today, I do not think God in his heaven would expect us to hand out large chunks of it quite so soon to people who arrive here just for the benefits they are likely to receive. - Yours, etc.,
