Sir, - You printed a very fair summary (The Irish Times, September 3rd) of the ceremony at 41 Wellington Road under the auspices of SIPTU at which the Lord Mayor of Dublin unveiled a plaque recalling that the great Jim Larkin had lived in this house from 1935 till his death 50 years ago this year.

May I ask you to let me correct the one error in your account? I was never a fellow tenant of Larkin's at this house. I was in attendance because in 1935, when my wife and I had just come to Dublin from Belfast, we asked our friend Jim Junior, Jim's eldest son, to let us meet his father, already a family hero. He brought us to the Workers' Union office in Marlborough Street where we met his father, who showed himself, to our pleased surprise, very interested in the experiences which had led us into the socialist movement.

After a whole morning's discussion Larkin surprised us still more by inviting us to come and stay with him as long as we liked. There followed the most educational and inspirational few weeks of our lives. - Yours, etc.,

Dalkey, Co Dublin.
