GARRETT MURRAY,
Sir, - To enable Aer Lingus and Ryanair to compete on equal terms, outgoing Government Ministers should be able to make appointments to Ryanair's board. - Yours, etc.,

Sir, - Throughout the election campaign I remember the Fianna Fáil party discussing the importance of transport and infrastructure to our economy.
It has been reported that the departing Minister for Public Enterprise appointed 14 directors to semi-state companies. These appointments included Ms Margaret Walsh to the board of CIE. Ms Walsh was Ms O' Rourke's former education adviser and a former president of ASTI. How this qualifies her to advise and deliberate on the management of one of the country's most strategically important companies I really do not know.
Is this what the government regard as taking transport seriously? - Yours, etc.,
