Sir, - Vincent Browne's acknowledgement of John Hume's unique contribution to Irish politics (Opinion, April 22nd) is totally appropriate. Indeed "without challenge, he is the greatest Irish person of our time".
I would go further and suggest that his extraordinary record over the past 30 years makes him the most important political figure in Ireland since Parnell. - Yours, etc.,
