Sir, – I share Charles Lysaght's regret that UCD no longer holds an annual Finlay O'Brien lecture (An Irishman's Diary, April 15th). As head of the, then, department of economics, I organised the last lecture, in 1996, given by Barry Eichengreen of Stanford University. Unfortunately, the series was discontinued because of the lack of subsequent funding. I would be confident that UCD would be happy to reinstate this lecture if appropriate sponsorship could be found.
