Madam, - Some brief points about Sean Moran's article in your edition of June 7th: Firstly, Kildare had no reluctance in accepting their defeat by Offaly and this is reflected in their refusal to appeal the result of the match.
Rather, they have called on the GAA to fully implement the rule book. In so doing they are defending the rights of every GAA club and county player.
Secondly, Mr Moran describes as "odd" the Kildare County Board's response to the Leinster Council's failure to deal with the issue at its meeting on May 29th. The board's response was both measured and appropriate.
The past history of Kildare with this rule has every relevance to the present case. On almost every occasion Kildare have accepted adverse decisions without protest.
They have gone out of their way to accommodate other counties, as shown, for example, by their acceptance of Galway as a venue for the Under 21 All-Ireland semi-final in 2004.
But the worm has turned and enough is enough. If the GAA rule book is to mean anything, it is high time for it to be fully and fairly implemented for all counties and clubs. - Is Mise,
