Sir, - What a splendidly graphic photograph on your front page of January 18th of the funeral of Thomas McDonagh, known locally as the "King of the Travellers", as it left St Patrick's Church, Ballyhaunis.

As the late Eamon Kelly, seanchaí, might have said, "Say what you will about the travellers", but they certainly know how to bury their dead with honour and dignity.

How often do we see a magnificient 19th century horse-drawn carriage pulled by two jet-black stallions sporting head plumes made of black goosefeathers?

Not least remarkable was the sartorially excellent young gentleman with hard hat and Dickensian long brown leather apron, leading the funeral procession. Altogether a memorable image. - Yours, etc.,
