DONAL O'HALLORAN,
Sir, - A recent Irish Times review of the candidates for the leadership of the Labour Party described Mr Pat Rabitte as "a formidable opponent of Fianna Fáil". Is there any faint hope that the list of candidates includes a formidable proponent of Labour? A review of the candidates does not raise significant hopes. During the course of the recent election, Labour's utterances included the term "Fianna Fáil" far more frequently than the term "Labour". We know what they oppose. One wonders what they support.
For brevity's sake, replace "Labour" with "Fine Gael" in the above - it still holds good. - Yours, etc.,
DONAL O'HALLORAN, Ballineaspaig Lawn, Bishopstown, Cork.
