Madam, - Before the general election, Labour politicians consistently berated Fianna Fáil and its infamous "lust for power at any cost", stating they did not believe Fianna Fail's claim that it would not share power with Sinn Féin in any new government.
Now, in the run-up to the Seanad elections, we are witnessing an act of breathtaking hypocrisy from Labour as it discusses a voting pact with Sinn Féin to ensure itself an extra seat in the Seanad (The Irish Times, July 9th).
Consider the howls of derision that would have welcomed such a proposal if it were made by Fianna Fáil. - Is mise,
MUIRIS MAC GEARAILT, Bramley Park, Dublin 15.
Madam, - Your political editor, Stephen Collins, reports that Sinn Féin and Labour may form a voting pact that would give Sinn Féin its first seat in the upper house of the Oireachtas. If so, will the agreement be known as "guns 'n' roses"? - Yours, etc,
MICHAEL CULLEN, Sandycove, Co Dublin.
