Sir, - The Fellowship of Reconciliation (Northern Ireland) has been campaigning for many months for an international ban on landmines.
We wrote to Diana, Princess of Wales, on July 23rd to commend her stand on this issue and received a reply dated July 28th in which she wrote: "A ban on these terrible weapons must be eagerly awaited by all humanitarians. I am, however, determined that the world should not lose sight of the aftermath. Brave men and women will be charged with making the ground safe again and so many innocent people will be faced with living out their lives with needless injury."
We would like your readers to add their voice in whatever way they can to the international initiative to ban these weapons so that the children of the future in so many parts of the world will not be killed or maimed. - Yours, etc.,
